OUR STORY Owner, Meghan Mercier, was 23 when she flew South to escape the cold New Hampshire winter to sunny San Diego where her passion for health and wellness took flight. Meghan’s passionate pursuit of knowledge is a core value of The Loose Leaf, breeding a desire to share our experiences and solutions to all who cross our path. The Loose Leaf’s origins started off at The Natural Healing Institute of Naturopathy in Encinitas where Meghan became a Master Herbalist. Meghan put this knowledge to practice developing tea blends offering her friends and family an alternative to types of modern medicine via tasty teas! For two and a half years Meghan continued to expand her knowledge of natural therapies working for a wellness clinic in Carlsbad, and in 2008 The Loose Leaf was born. Meghan’s mission is clean organic tea with no preservatives or unnatural flavor that doesn’t only taste good, but is packed with powerful healing properties. Using only organic Fair Trade certified ingredients The Loose Leaf’s teas are all locally hand blended in Oceanside seeking to truly enable people to take their health into their own hands. The Press Espresso's journey began with the desire to create better coffee at home and then share the fun ritual with others. Husband and wife team DeShun and Yasmine met over shared similar interests in college for photography and fashion design and eventually the craft of roasting and brewing coffee. In 2015 they started a plan to create a space in the community that would offer freshly roasted coffee and carefully and aesthetically prepared coffee and tea drinks. The Journey Begins Many years ago, Arianna Niccola Smith and her closest friends discovered a magical place for tea. They were captivated by the experience and it soon became their favorite spot for special occasions. Arianna then shared this delightful experience with her mother Claudia and sisters Shannon and Lisa, together enjoying the haven for quiet conversations, where afternoons slipped away unnoticed. The concept of tea resonated so deeply with Claudia and her daughters that they began dreaming of opening their own tea house. However, they needed to convince Allan, the father and husband, who initially had no interest in the idea. Reluctantly, he was dragged along and soon realized the merits and uniqueness of the tea concept. The Niccola family quickly recognized the significance of creating a place where people could forge meaningful relationships. They envisioned a special, serene setting where guests could enjoy each other's company. In today's stress-filled society, such a place would be truly exceptional, relevant, and healing. The journey continued as the family embarked on finding the perfect location with the support of numerous family members and friends. Today, we stand proudly, staying true to our original mission statement: "Building relationships, one cup at a time…" Though times have changed and years have passed, the dream lives on through Damian, the Niccola's grandson, who has been involved from the very beginning. His heartfelt desire remains the same for every guest who enters our doors – that your time with us rejuvenates your soul, nurtures your relationships with friends and loved ones, and leaves you with cherished memories to treasure forever.
