View ProfileOur Story When brothers Kurt and John Tiedt decided to go into the winemaking business with a group of close friends, it wasn’t for fame and fortune. Somerset Vineyard & Winery continues a legacy of sharing good times with others, a cornerstone of the Tiedt Brothers philosophy for decades. Together with their wives Nesreen and Gina, close friends and partners Steve and Jen Gourley, Kim Scott, Kal and Sawsan Khoury, Bert and Maria Contestabile, and Mic and Dena Ruhley, we formed a small investment group that turned a dream into a reality. Somerset Vineyard & Winery is also dedicated to the memory of their close childhood friend Robert Trummeter who lost his battle against cancer shortly before acquiring the winery. Somerset Vineyard & Winery is a destination and a wine for anyone who appreciates the joy of friendship, the thrill of life, and the taste of fun. We welcome you to come and make memories with us. Somerset was the street of their childhood and adolescence, growing up in the suburbs of Orange County, California. Somerset recalls lifelong friendships, family celebrations and countless memories. The name evokes a time of pickup games, block parties, neighborhood potlucks and camaraderie. Somerset embodies a philosophy and sentiment that continued into adulthood as the group of friends raised families of their own. [read more]
View ProfileWelcome Our story begins when founder, Jim Carter, was an eight-year old growing up in Ohio. He would gather seeds from the maple tree outside his home and plant them in his relatives' yards. This was an early indication that Jim loved digging in the earth and watching things grow. In 1981, Jim's father introduced him to a pristine region in Southern California with views for miles of the valley below. Perhaps he reminded Jim of his love for growing things as he encouraged him to purchase 400 acres here, which would later become our award-winning vineyards in the Southern California Temecula Valley. In the mid 1990's Jim was at the movies, watching "A Walk in the Clouds." The classic vineyards that set the scene reminded Jim of his Southern California land. And the story of our Temecula winery resort and spa truly began. Jim analyzed the water, soil and climate. Finding the conditions ideal, he started digging in the earth once more. He planted and nurtured the finest grapes with his own hands and the help of a hard-working team. Expert winemakers joined the team to create the wines that would establish the Temecula winery's reputation. Becoming a vintner inspired another chapter in Jim's story: building South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. Complete with villas, a restaurant and a spa situated in the middle of 63 acres, his story continues to grow, much like the vines he first planted. As Jim tells it, "I wanted to share the complete wine country experience. Guests not only enjoy the finest wines paired with the finest foods, but they stay in a private villa right in the middle of a vineyard. We are Temecula Valley's only full-service winery-resort that gives them a glimpse of our lifestyle in one of the most beautiful places in Southern California." It's Jim Carter's unbridled spirit of adventure that has allowed his Southern California Temecula Valley winery resort to garner over 3,000 distinguished awards and medals for the grapes it's grown and wine it's produced. In June of 2016, South Coast Winery broke records with its fourth win in the California State Winery of the Year Wine Competition, and yet again for a fifth time in 2022. South Coast Winery brought home the first California State Winery of the Year award to its Southern California Temecula Valley home in 2008 and then again with a back-to-back win in 2009. It earned the top title in the California State Wine Competition in again in 2013, 2016 and 2022. [read more]

View ProfileIn May of 2006, Mike and Debbie, the owner-operators of Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours had purchased a motorized 1914 San Francisco cable car. Debbie was reluctant of the purchase because of the shape it was in, but Mike could visualize a restored cable car running through Temecula and he couldn’t wait to restore the car to its former glory! It took over two years to refurbish and fully-restore the cable car to its original conditions, but with a lot of patience, sandpaper, paint, and mechanical parts, the cable car was restored and set off to cruise through the beautiful Temecula wine country.
